just can’t kick it..

Anyone watch Teen Mom 2 finale last night? What a stand up mother Janelle is hu? lol PFFFTTTT!
so- woke up today.. after a week and a half of a nagging cough.. which is just starting to dissipate- now I just have no voice. I do however have a nasty headache I just can’t kick, and Tylenol being the only thing I can take for it, just isn’t cutting it. After taking yesterday off from working out, today I needed to work out, sick or not. So I headed to spin this morning before my date with Mom.. and man- was that a mistake! I walked in with a mild headache and walked out with a pounding migraine. What a dummy I thought, why on earth did I just do that?! Oh well- at least my workout is done! Ave HR 143, 60 min, 21 miles. Tons and tons of water was the only thing I could do for it, and it seemed to help.. the run I planned after was NOT happening.. oh well.

After downing bottles of water, Mom arrived to pick me up and gave me these gorgeous roses.. “just because”.. which totally made my day :) We went to Panera Bread for lunch where I got my usual black bean soup and sesame chicken salad then headed to the movies! I haven’t been to the movies in YEARS! We went to see Hall Pass, it was pretty funny. Nice to get out and spend some QT time with mama-dukes.
Got home and dove into my next read.. 
until the mail guy came to deliver my TIMEX cycling shorts and shirt! Can’t wait to wear them.. too bad we might get up to 12 inches of snow on Friday! NOOOOOOOOO!!! :( Work tomorrow 3a-3p (BOOOOO) and Friday hopefully won’t be snowed in! Suppose to meet up with Ali and get a mani. Then perhaps out Friday night with the Wheeler’s to Brew City! :)

Work today was a typical Monday.. long and crazy! Complete with one tackle, one AMA(leaving against medical advice), and one admitted patient d/c’d from the ER 35 hours later.. it was just another Monday “Funday”. The only thing I can do on these days is laugh and get what NEEDS to be done, DONE. All the other fluffing and buffing just doesn’t happen, because when it does it just backfires in your face. For example: I had a nice woman who just got admitted, and I just got handed orders. Knowing that there was a bed shortage I got this sweet old lady all tucked on a hospital bed, blood drawn, IV fluid up and running, pain meds given, med sheets done.. and then I hear it.. over the stupid walkie- talkie.. “MEG.. YOU HAVE A BED ON ROOM 5!” Of course. Ok. it was great and all I got her all settled but, I got her all settled for the floor! GRRR! Ohhhh well, meanwhile my other patient had been waiting for a private bed for OVER 30 hours at this point.. ludacris or what? yep.

I wish there was a way to fix this. The only thing I could do at this point for my patient who had been there for over 30 hours was be punctual with his meds, courteous of his privacy down in the busy ER, and stay and talk whenever I had a chance… No window, No T.V, No visitors, and No people watching… what a boring stay he must have had. I hope I at least made him laugh a little bit. Being my clumsy self; dropping ginger ale all over my pants, then later dropping a bunch of empyt urinals on my head while getting something out of the supply cabinet.. I think that did the trick :oP Any-hoo, hopefully you made someone laugh or smile today, because it’s the best medicine!

Run after work was a quick 3 miles, 8:25 pace. Wind was brutal and cold, but for 3 miles it wasn’t so bad. Probably wasn’t the best thing for my nagging cough though :ox Core followed THEN–

Shrimp Stir Fry

Shrimp Stir Fry
 15-20 small shrimp, deveined, peeled and cooked
2 T. canola oil
1 bunch broccolini (cut up)
1 onion (chopped)
5-10 baby carrots (chopped)
2 garlic cloves (minced)
1/2 t. minced ginger
1/8 t. pepper
sprinkle of cayenne pepper
3 T teriyaki sauce
2 T hot n spicy szechuan sauce
1 T. sesame oil
3/4 c Long grain brown rice
1 1/2 c water
Cook water until boiling, add rice, simmer for 30 minutes. Meanwhile season shrimp with pepper, cayenne, ginger, garlic and 1/2 t. of teriyaki sauce, let marinate for 25 minutes while rice is cooking.

…with 5 minutes left until rice is done, cook broccolini, carrots and onion in canola oil in Wok. When rice is done, add in cooked shrimp to veggie mixture with the rest of the teriyaki sauce and hot n spicy szechuan sauce, let cook for additional 2-3 minutes.. serve over rice and top with cashews and peanuts! Spicy and Delish!

Forerunner

So I made the plunge! I finally, finally got my Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS. I have been researching and looking at new HR/GPS training devices for like a month, and came to the conclusion that the forerunner 305 is for me.. I can’t wait to get it!! Also won a cycling outfit on EBAY.. a brand new pink TIMEX jersey and shorts.. woohoo! Can’t wait for it to get nice out!

Took Sly for a hike today out to Trout Brook.. the weather could have been a little warmer but Sly didn’t mind.. (notice the ice formed by the water falls in the brook.. brrrrrrr)

We found a ton of these trees chopped off by beaver’s! and Sly wanted to find them in their den’s but I don’t think they were having it..

Shrimp Stir fry for dinner tonight! I know.. shrimp two nights in a row! Should be yummy.. stay tuned for the recipe later tonight!



green tip. Start packing yourself a Waste-less Lunch where you only throw away food scraps.. try and use reusable containers, recycle your baggies and instead of using plastic utensils bring your own from home with a cloth napkin.

Brrr..

I thought it was Spring?!! But it sure does feel like Winter still! The wind and cold today I could not get myself to run outside. I was really planning on it, but I just couldn’t. So I headed to the gym for my 7 miler on the treadmill. Ave 8:35 pace.. all I have to say is thank God for HGTV and the woman in front of me dancing on her aerobic machine.. LOL. JB had a trainer ride while I was @ the gym, then after we were going to get our groceries done before date night :)
We headed out to Texas Roadhouse.. because we have had a gift card since Christmas (i know, i know!).. We got the Baby Blossom to start.. it was not so “baby”! Thing was big! a bit battery, but still good, and for my main course I got the grilled shrimp over rice with a sweet potato the size of TEXAS and some mixed veggies.. I barely ate half of it, should be good for lunch tomorrow!
Obviously we didn’t get to the Cape- too cold! once it get’s warmer we will be there all the time.. I hope!  Tomorrow taking Sly for a hike out to trout brook, then the usual Sunday stuff.

So.. Today I got an invite to run in a relay.. it’s the Reach the Beach Relay, by Courtney.. I’m thinking it would be a lot of fun!.. and a lot of miles too! Anyone ever done a relay run like this before? I’m not sure… but I’m always up for new things, and this would definitely be something new and exciting right?! :o)
